Shanley, Boyce, and Jerzak Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON MA -- The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) is officially back after a short break for Thanksgiving. This past week featured 14 of the 18 teams in action, with 16 total games across the league. As is always the case, the league saw many top performances from its teams and players.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Trent Shanley (New Jersey 87's), Connor Boyce (Connecticut RoughRiders), and Dalton Jerzak (New Jersey 87's) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

The action continues tomorrow at Noon, with 17 more games on the schedule this week. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, December 10th. Remember to catch the #Eshow all season long on HockeyTV.

FORWARD - Trent Shanley (New Jersey 87's)

Shanley and the 87s won both of their games this past weekend, knocking off the New York Applecore by the score of 4-2 on Friday, and then winning a 4-3 game over the Philadelphia Little Flyers on Sunday. After being held off the scoresheet against the Applecore, Shanley responded with a goal and 2 assists in the victory over the Little Flyers. Shanley's goal was his 10th of the season, and it came with just 2:05 left in regulation. The big victory for New Jersey in the HockeyTV Game of the Week makes things a little bit tighter down south, as the 87s now trail the Little Flyers by just a single point for the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. For the season, the '98 from Hillsdale, NJ now has 15 points through his first 19 games, and he will look to stay hot with 5 games left before the holiday break.

DEFENSEMAN - Connor Boyce (Connecticut RoughRiders)

We flip over to the New England Conference for our top performer on the blue line, as Boyce helped lead the RoughRiders to a weekend sweep of the Walpole Express. The All-Star defenseman had a goal and an assist in each victory over Walpole, running his season total up to 21 points for the year. After tallying 38 points in his first year in the EHL (2017-18 season), the native of St. Albans, VT is on a good pace to set new career highs this season. Outside of the individual accolades for Boyce, the four-point weekend is also huge for his team as they now trail the Seahawks Hockey Club by just 3 points (game in hand) for the top spot in the South Division (NEW). The schedule doesn't get any easier for Boyce and the RoughRiders, as they hit the ice next on Saturday against the New Hampshire Avalanche.

GOALTENDER - Dalton Jerzak (New Jersey 87's)

While Shanley helped lead the way on offense for New Jersey, Jerzak continued adding to a phenomenal first season in the EHL for the 2000-born netminder. The native of Rochester, NY was in net for both wins over the Applecore and Little Flyers, running his overall record up to 13-3-0 for the season. While this is New Jersey's first season at the EHL level, Jerzak has played a key role in making it seem like they've been in business for years. The 87s now own a 15-point lead over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights for the top spot in the North Division (ATL), and as mentioned above, they are closing in on the Little Flyers for the top spot in the conference. Looking ahead, the rest of their December schedule will present its challenges for New Jersey, as it includes showcase matchups against 2 of the 3 teams they've lost to this season (Seahawks and RoughRiders).

HONORABLE MENTION - Anthony Starzi (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights)

Wrapping things up this week, the EHL is recognizing Anthony Starzi with an Honorable Mention. In his first 2 games since returning from the North American Hockey League (NAHL), the '98 scored a goal in the Knights' win over the Connecticut Chiefs, and then added another tally in his team's shootout loss to the Applecore. Starzi should provide a big spark for his team, as they battle down the stretch for playoff positioning.
