Vonakis, Koblick, and Walker Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- We're down to just 10 games left before the holiday break, as this past week featured the third showcase of the season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). All 18 teams hit the ice in Newington, CT, with over 70% of the games being decided by 3 goals or less. With so many tight matchups, the EHL saw a strong showing from the NCAA coaches and scouts, as well as some great performances from many different players across the league.

The EHL is pleased to announce that George Vonakis (Philadelphia Little Flyers), Jackson Koblick (Philadelphia Revolution), and Thomas Walker (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

The final week before the holiday break features at least a game per day through Sunday, with 10 total matchups on the schedule. The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, December 24th. Remember to catch the #Eshow all season long on HockeyTV.

FORWARD - George Vonakis (Philadelphia Little Flyers)

Vonakis and the Little Flyers won both of their games at the December Showcase, and the '99 earned himself back-to-back Forward of the Week honors (TSR Hockey Stars of the Week #12). After tallying a goal and seven assists in a pair of games last week, Vonakis followed things up with three more goals and pair of assists in two games this week. For the season, the native of Abingdon, MD now has 31 points (8 goals, 23 assists), in 17 total games. Dating back to November 1st, Vonakis has tallied at least a point in 11 of his last 12 games, with 28 total points during that stretch. It's very safe to say that the three total points in his first four games, were not a great indication of how good Vonakis truly is.

Looking ahead, Vonakis and the Little Flyers will wrap-up their first half of the season with a home-and-home series against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights on Tuesday and Wednesday. Philadelphia is currently the top-ranked team in the #Eshow Power Rankings, with a record of 23-2-1.

DEFENSEMAN - Jackson Koblick (Philadelphia Revolution)

Koblick and the Revolution split their pair of games at the December Showcase, as they hit the break with a record of 18-6-0. Back for his third season in the EHL, Koblick notched a goal and four assists in the pair of games in Newington. The five-point performance nearly doubled Koblick's totals for the year, as he now has 12 points while having played in every game to date. Looking back, the '98 from Staunton, VA tallied 14 points during the 2016-17 season and 22 points during the 2017-18 season. With just under half of this season still remaining, not including playoffs, Koblick is in great position to set new career highs.

Looking ahead, Koblick and the Revolution will return from break with a key home-and-home series against the Philadelphia Little Flyers on January 5th and 6th.

GOALTENDER - Thomas Walker (Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights)

Wrapping things up between the pipes, is the anchor for the Knights. Walker has played in 22 of his team's 25 games to date, including both victories at the December Showcase. Walker grabbed his second consecutive shutout with a 32-save performance against the Connecticut Chiefs on Thursday, and then followed things up with 20 more saves against the Seahawks Hockey Club on Friday.

Since losing to the Philadelphia Revolution on November 14th, Walker and the Knights have gone 7-0-1 and have climbed their way up to the #4 spot in the #Eshow Power Rankings. A big test now awaits Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, as they get set to hit the ice with the Philadelphia Little Flyers for a key home-and-home series (Tuesday and Wednesday).

HONORABLE MENTION - Samir Abouelhana (Philadelphia Revolution)

While Koblick was picking up assists on a handful of goals for the Revolution, Samir Abouelhana was the beneficiary on the other end for Philadelphia. The '98 native of St. Louis, MO scored four times during the December Showcase, and picked up an assist as well. The EHL's leading scorer now has 52 points in his final season of junior hockey.

HONORABLE MENTION - Dan Barry (Vermont Lumberjacks)

Flipping over to the New England Conference, and Dan Barry has helped provide a spark to the Lumberjacks, ever since joining the team in late October. In eleven games with Vermont, Barry has 12 total points, including the overtime winner against the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers on Friday.
