Chiefs Captain Set to Join Falcons Next Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- Zach Withington, a forward for the the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to Albertus Magnus College for the fall of 2019.

Withington is in his second season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and his first year with the Chiefs. The veteran forward serves as the team captain, and in 19 total games to date, the '99 has scored 15 goals and dished out 17 assists.

"It is hard for me to express how thrilled I am for Zach and his family about his commitment to Albertus Magnus," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Kevin Cunningham "When Zach made the decision to play with us this season I told him that we would rely heavily on him to lead us both on and off the ice, and he has not disappointed at all. His skills and shot are exceptional, but his character and leadership have been even more critical to the growth of our program. The way Zach competes every day, the way that he supports his teammates, and the quiet confidence that he has in himself and instills in others are factors that no one can accurately measure, but they have been a huge part of our success as a team. I look forward to working with Zach the rest of this season and being able to watch him help Coach Wallack and Coach Alvey build the Falcon hockey program. You can bet there will be plenty of Chiefs in attendance at the team’s home opener next fall!”

Withington will be joined by his teammate Scot Lawson, who also committed to join the new program next fall. As for the Chiefs' leader, the native of Branford, CT is excited about staying close to home, as well as the opportunity to play both ice hockey and baseball at the Division III level.

“I am excited to be a part of another new program and help lay the foundation for success at Albertus Magnus," said Withington. "You can feel the excitement that everyone on campus has for the hockey program. Everyone I met on my visit talked about how the entire college community is looking forward to supporting the hockey program. I am looking forward to being a part of that experience and giving our fans plenty to cheer about."

Withington and the Chiefs return to action this afternoon at 3:00pm, with a matchup against the Vermont Lumberjacks. This is the first game of a key two-month stretch, that will ultimately determine if the Chiefs will be in or out of the EHL Playoffs.
