Adkins, Tobey, and Gargiulo Earn EHL Weekly Honors

BOSTON, MA -- Despite a number of cancellations, the past seven days featured eleven games across the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). Key points were earned behind some top-notch performances from many different players and teams.

The EHL is pleased to announce that Jake Adkins (New Hampshire Avalanche), Cameron Tobey (Walpole Express), and Andrew Gargiulo (New York Applecore) have been named the TSR Hockey Stars of the Week.

With winter storm Harper now in the rearview mirror, the upcoming schedule cranks back up again this week. Starting tomorrow at Noon, the EHL features at least one game per day through Monday.  The week ahead puts 17 of the 18 EHL teams in action, with 21 total games on the docket.

The next set of TSR Hockey Stars of the Week will be released on Monday, January 28th. Remember to catch the #Eshow all season long on HockeyTV.

FORWARD - Jake Adkins (New Hampshire Avalanche)

Adkins and the Avalanche won both of their games this past week, knocking off the Boston Jr. Rangers by the score of 5-3 on Friday, and then shutting out the Valley Jr. Warriors on Saturday. With the pair of victories, the Avalanche improved their record up to 25-5-0 for the season, as they continue to control the top spot in the New England Conference standings.

As for Adkins, the '99 native of Centennial, CO helped pace the offense en route to his third weekly honor of the season (TSR Hockey Stars of the Week #4 -- TSR Hockey Stars of the Week #5). The 6'3 forward added a trio of goals and two assists to his season totals, giving him 39 points in 29 games to date. Adkins has been an offensive catalyst for the defending champs, and he's a big reason why New Hampshire is feeling confident in their chances to lift the trophy again this season. Looking ahead, the Avalanche have a tough slate in front of them with matchups this week against the New England Wolves, the East Coast Wizards, and the Philadelphia Revolution.

DEFENSEMAN - Cameron Tobey (Walpole Express)

Tobey and the Express swept their weekend series with Team Maryland, moving themselves into sole possession of 7th place in the New England Conference. Of course only the top six teams advance to the postseason, but the Express are playing well as of late, having won four of their last five contests.

As for Tobey, the '99 native of Falmouth, MA scored a hat-trick in the 8-4 victory on Friday night, and then added an assist in the 3-1 win on Saturday morning. For the season, the physical defenseman now has eight goals and seven assists through his first 27 games in the EHL. Tobey will look to continue to lead his team with games this week against the Connecticut Chiefs, the Valley Jr. Warriors, and the Seahawks Hockey Club.

GOALTENDER - Andrew Gargiulo (New York Applecore)

Gargiulo and the Applecore won their only game of the week, a 4-3 contest that went to overtime against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. The 2000-born native of Larchmont, NY picked up his 8th win of the season in that matchup, turning aside 42 of the 45 shots that were sent his way. This was the third meeting of the season between the Mid-Atlantic Conference rivals, and following suit with last year's epic First Round playoff battle, every matchup so far this year has gone past regulation to determine a winner.

Looking ahead, Gargiulo will look to to continue to anchor his team with matchups this week against the New Jersey 87s on Friday and the Boston Jr. Rangers on Saturday.

HONORABLE MENTION - Kyle Konin (Vermont Lumberjacks)

Wrapping things up this week, the EHL would like to recognize Kyle Konin of the Vermont Lumberjacks with an Honorable Mention award. Konin made 39 saves during his team's 5-1 victory over the Seahawks Hockey Club on Friday, giving him his 2nd victory in as many starts with the Lumberjacks. The '98 native of West Kingston, RI joined the Lumberjacks right after the holiday break, and so far with Vermont he is a perfect 2-0-0 with 39 saves on the 41 total shots that he has faced.
