Ducks All-Star Captain Set to Join Blue Devils this Fall

SOMERSET, NJ -- Nick Newman, a forward for the Protec Jr Ducks, has committed to SUNY Fredonia for the fall of 2022.

The '01 native of Long Island, NY is in his 2nd season with the Ducks, serving as the team captain this year. In 70 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Newman has racked up 77 career points.

"Nick’s leadership this season is a big reason our team has had success; our team has never been tighter as a group and Nick's contribution to the Jr. Ducks and his team have not gone unnoticed," said Ducks head coach and general manager Terry Watt. "With his great attitude and team first approach any school would be lucky to have him. We wish him the best of luck moving forward."

While moving forward will bring with it the challenge of taking his game to the next level, one aspect that will make things easier for Newman will be making that jump with one of his current line mates. Newman and Spencer Quinn have spent two seasons together with the Ducks, and will be continuing on as a unit to Fredonia this fall. It will also be fun for the duo to face-off against the 3rd member of their forward line, as James Tilley suits up for SUNY Brockport this upcoming season.

"My time in the EHL has been a lot of fun," said Newman. "It has helped me advance as a player and mature as a person. Over my two seasons with the Ducks, I’ve learned a lot and made a lot of bonds. I’m excited to challenge myself at the next level with SUNY Fredonia and experience new things."

Prior to beginning the new journey in the fall, the EHL All-Star now has the chance to lead his team on what they hope will be a deep playoff run. The Ducks are right in the thick of things in arguably the toughest division in the league, the South Division.
