Holmstrom spent two seasons with the Express, serving as the team's Assistant Coach back in the 2020-21 season, and then was elevated up to the Head Coach role this past year (2021-22).

Looking back on this past year in particular, Holmstrom brought his team all the way to the EHL Frozen Finals for the first time in franchise history, and saw his group reach the Championship Game this past April.

"Josh was elevated to the Head Coach position this past season and proved he was up to the task," said Todd Stirling, the General Manager for the Express. "He helped eight guys commit to college and was instrumental in the championship run the team went on. We want to thank Josh for everything and wish him all the best in the college ranks.”

The elevation that has been referenced came just prior to the start of last year's training camp, proving Stirling's point, that the success that the team earned was due in large part to the job that Holmstrom did.

“I couldn’t have been more proud of what we accomplished last season. We had a great group of guys that battled all the way to the end,” said Holmstrom. “I wish Nic [Cota] and the team the best of luck. I will definitely be following along all season.”

Holmstrom now heads back to his home state of Colorado, to join a program and a coach that he knows very well.

"Josh is a local boy who grew up playing youth hockey at Cadet Ice Arena, he went on to a very successful USHL, NCAA, and professional playing career. As a coach, Josh has a year of experience under his belt as a head coach in the EHL. Josh possesses a high level of respect for the Academy, and the experience he brings as both a player and coach will enable him to make an immediate impact on our program."
