RoughRiders Defenseman Set to Join Valiants this Fall

NORWALK, CT -- Justin Fernet, a defenseman for the Connecticut RoughRiders, has committed to Manhattanville College for the fall of 2023.

The '03 native of Canada joined the RoughRiders in mid-October of this past season, and over the course of 37 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games, Fernet registered 26 points to his credit.

“Justin is a skillful defenseman with a solid offensive skill set and a strong shot from the point.” said RoughRiders associate head coach Steven Brown. "He was outstanding on the power-play and was a major threat for opposing goaltenders. He also has great vision and can deliver a targeted first pass."

As Brown mentioned, Fernet made his presence felt on the power-play, as 11 of his 12 goals scored came with the RoughRiders on the man advantage.

Fernet now sets off to join a program at Manhattanville that has always heavily recruited players from the EHL. In total since the league was formed back in 2013, the Valiants have committed 24 players from the league, and that includes at least one player per season for all 10 years of the EHL's existence.

As for this fall's incoming freshmen class, Fernet will line up with three other players from the EHL, as he will become new teammates with William Billequey of the Vermont Lumberjacks, Tristan D'Elia of the Philadelphia Little Flyers, and Jack Riley of the East Coast Wizards.
