WALPOLE, MA -- Marcus Torgner, a forward for the Express Hockey Club, has committed to the University of Southern Maine (USM) for the fall of 2023.
The '03 native of Sweden came to the Express this past year, in what turned out to be his first and only season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). Over the course of 47 total games combined between the regular season and the postseason, Torgner tallied 22 points to his credit on 13 goals and nine assists.
“Down the stretch and into the playoffs, Marcus really found his game," said Express head coach Nic Cota. "He was an important member of the team for us both on and off the ice. Southern Maine is definitely getting a good one.”
It's also not just 'one' that USM is getting from the Express this season, as both EHL players that chose the Huskies came from Walpole. Torgner will remain teammates with Adrian Jubran when he arrives on campus in the fall.
“I want to start by thanking my parents for allowing me the opportunity to come here to the US and play hockey for the Express, and to my billet family for their continuous support,” said Torgner. “The Express organization has been nothing but great to me. Coach Cota and Coach Kyle [Robertson] have given me so much support and guidance to help me grow and develop as a hockey player and as a person. The coaches and my teammates really made this year special. I am super excited to become a Husky and to start my college career at Southern Maine!”
