Chiefs Second-Year Defenseman Set to Join New NCAA Division III Program this Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- Josh Romanowski, a defenseman for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) for the fall of 2023.

The '02 native of Amenia, NY spent the past two seasons playing at the top level for the Chiefs in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). Combining the two years together, the defensive defenseman hit the ice for 90 total games, 45 per season. Along the way, Romanowski tallied seven assists to his credit.

“What a great fit for both Coach [Jeremiah] Ketts and Romo,” said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. "Being that MCLA is a start up program, Josh should be able to use his experience and leadership ability to impact a young group from day one. I’m so pleased for him!"

The second year defenseman, served as a captain for the Chiefs this past year.  Despite playing through injury for much of the final month of the season and into the playoffs, Romanowski was able to provide tremendous leadership for the Chiefs throughout their postseason run.

That experience, along with everything he gained from two full seasons in the EHL, has Romanowski feeling ready and grateful to reach the next step in his hockey journey.

“I am extremely excited to announce my commitment to further my academic and athletic careers at Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts," said Romanowski. I want to thank my family, teammates, friends, and coaches for helping me along my journey. Without them it would not have been possible to achieve my dream of playing college hockey. I want to especially thank Greg Heffernan for his guidance and coaching over the past two years. It was an honor to play with the Connecticut Chiefs and I will cherish the long-term friendships I developed. Being part of this organization not only allowed me to grow as a hockey player but also as a person. I am very grateful for the opportunity Coach Ketts has given me to be part of the inaugural season at MCLA this upcoming fall!”
