Apple Core Goaltender Set to Join Lancers this Fall

BREWSTER, NY -- Donovan Alfama, a goaltender for the New York Apple Core, has committed to Worcester State University for the fall of 2023.

The '02 native of Douglas, MA chose the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) for his final season of juniors, and that decision ultimately paid off with this commitment to join the Lancers' program in October.

"Congrats to Donny on all of his hard work,” said Apple Core head coach and general manager Lenny Caglianone. “His consistent persistence of attention to detail of growing as a not only a hockey player, but also as a human, has been rewarded. Worcester is getting an exceptional young man who will insulate the depth of the locker room."

Worcester State has always heavily recruited players from the EHL, as Alfama goes down as the 41st player in league history to choose the program. Overall, he's one of three players from the 2022-23 season, as he will team up with Christian Howanitz of the Express Hockey Club and Matt Lombardi of the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, when he arrives on campus.

"I’d like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for all the support, as well as the Apple Core organization for helping me reach my goal of playing NCAA hockey," said Alfama. "My time in New York was unforgettable. I’m very grateful and excited for the opportunity Coach [Jay] Punsky has given me to come to a school with great academics and athletics. I look forward to being a Lancer!”
