Express Forward Set to Join Owls this Fall

WALPOLE, MA -- Devin Garnett, a forward for the Express Hockey Club, has committed to Westfield State University (WSU) for the fall of 2023.

The '02 native of White Plains, NY spent a pair of seasons under the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) umbrella, playing out a year apiece for the New York Apple Core in 2021-22 and the Express this past year (2022-23). Overall, in 78 career games in the EHL, Garnett tallied 46 total points to his credit on 16 goals and 30 assists.

"Devin has to be one of the most outgoing and funny kids I have been around as a coach and player," said Express head coach Nic Cota. "He always had a smile on his face coming to the rink, and that aspect alone will help him have a great career at Westfield State. His high IQ and hand-eye skills, will have an immediate impact at the next level in my opinion. Congratulations to Devin and his family, we look forward to watching you continue to grow!"

At that next level, Garnett will be one of two EHL players joining WSU this fall, as he will team up with Nik Vasilijevs from the Connecticut Chiefs when he arrives on campus.

"I would like to thank my parents, teammates, coaches, and family who have helped me get to where I am today," said Garnett. "I am very excited to further my academic and athletic career at Westfield State University. Last but not least I would like to thank the Walpole Express and the New York Apple Core for making my time in the EHL enjoyable and also helping me develop both on and off the ice as I move on to college."

As Garnett pointed out, the teams within the EHL do a tremendous job working together to maximize exposure and opportunities for all players that come through the door. The playmaking forward is just the latest example of a true development success story, that has the EHL closing in on 1700 total NCAA Commitments since the league was formed back in 2013.
