Railers All-Star Captain Set to Join Soaring Eagles Next Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Corbin Melie, a defenseman for the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, has committed to Elmira College for the fall of 2024.

A two-year Railer out of Clinton, New York, the '03 earned honors as an All-Central Team defenseman last season, tallying nine goals and 13 assists. He was the only defenseman in the EHL with two game-winning goals in overtime.

“Corbin is a complete player on the backend,” said Railers head coach and general manager Sean Berotni. “He has the brain to play the game, and he has high-end skills. His shot in particular is special. Ever since he got here, he’s been working on his skating and there’s been a ton of improvement there.”

That work was recognized early on this season, as Melie was selected to play for the Main EHL All-Star Team in his home state of New York, with exhibition games against SUNY Fredonia and SUNY Brockport. That experience, along with everything the Railers have provided to him, has Melie feeling ready for the next level.

“Everything we do here at the Railers is geared towards preparing us for college hockey,” said Melie. “I think our coaching staff, practices, and our off-ice work pushes us to be ready. The way Coach Bertoni advertised me to coaches allowed me to have a lot of options.”

Also, having some familiarity with their coaching staff, Melie began the process with Elmira on his own.

“Things snowballed from there," added Melie. "I initially showed interest in them. They got to watch me a lot and showed interest back. I went on a visit and it became my top school for every reason. The school in general was my favorite campus. It’s close to home. Academically, they have a ton of options for me and of course, the hockey is really good. The goal for me has always been to play at the highest level I can.”

In this, his 2nd year with Worcester, he was named captain. He ranks amongst the top defensemen in the league in scoring with seven goals and eight assists to date.

“The Railers Organization is lucky to have Corbin Melie in the family,” concluded Bertoni. “He is a true competitor, a team first guy, but most importantly, an incredible young man. I look forward to seeing what the future holds for him.”

Melie and Railers were ranked as the #1 overall team in the EHL, in the most recent Power Rankings that were released this past Wednesday morning. Since that announcement, they've stretched their active winning streak up to 11 games by claiming victories over the Seahawks Hockey Club and H.C. Rhode Island.

Now, looking forward, they will look to keep things rolling when they take on the Bridgewater Bandits and the Express Hockey Club next week, as part of the Mini-Showcase at their home rink, the Worcester Ice Center.
