87's All-Star Defenseman Set to Join Purple Knights this Fall

WALL TOWNSHIP, NJ -- Cole Douglas, a defenseman for the New Jersey 87's, has committed to Saint Michael's College (SMC) for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Gibsonia, PA is in his second season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), and first with the 87's. After spending the 2022-23 campaign with the Connecticut Chiefs, Douglas made the move to the South Division for his final year of junior hockey, and over the course of 69 career games to date, Douglas has tallied 21 points to his credit on six goals and 15 assists.

"Cole has been tremendous for us; he has been very steady and very reliable day in and day out," said 87's head coach and general manager Adam Houli. “He is going to be a very good college player. I am very excited he has found a place that he is very excited about, I can’t wait to see how he finishes the year for us."

Douglas' contributions to the 87's were felt immediately, and recognized as well, as he was selected to the Central/South EHL All-Star Team that faced-off against Stevenson University and Lebanon Valley College. That experienced, paired with everything else that Douglas has gained from this time in the EHL, has the veteran defenseman feeling ready for the next step in his hockey career.

"I am very excited and grateful to being committed to attend and play hockey for Saint Michael’s College," said Douglas. "I can’t thank my family enough for supporting me and my hockey career over the years and getting me to this point. I’d like to thank the coaching staff at Saint Michael’s for this incredible opportunity, as well as the New Jersey 87’s organization and especially coaches Adam Houli, Jack Lane, and Cam Pape, for all they have done for this team and I this season. I am excited to keep pushing and head into playoffs with the fantastic group of guys that we have on the 87’s."

Speaking of the playoffs, Douglas and the 87's would enter the postseason as the #2 seed in the South Division, if the regular season ended today. They will look to at a minimum maintain that position down the stretch run, and into the month of March.
