Railers Goaltender Set to Join Knights this Fall

WORCESTER, MA -- Adam Casper, a goaltender for the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, has committed to SUNY Geneseo for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Skaneateles, NY first played for the Protec Jr. Ducks in 2022-23 season, before joining the Railers this year, for his age-out campaign. Casper currently sports a league-best .942 save percentage and 1.38 goals against average.

“We knew Adam would be a good fit here,” said Railers head coach and general manager Sean Bertoni. “He’s a high-character kid first and foremost, and one of the most likable guys in our room and one of the hardest workers we have in the organization. On the ice, he’s very competitive. He’s athletic and he spends time studying the game and working on his craft. He works every day and is ready when his name is called.”

His name has been called essentially half of the time this season, as paired with Aaron Matthews, the pair of Railers netminders have formed one of the top duos in the entire league.

“My first year in Protec really helped me get acclimated to the league. It made it a lot more comfortable for me this year,” said Casper. "This season, the coaches have demanded a lot out of us and both the team and I have seen the results.”

Bertoni gives Casper 'a lot of credit' for his communication with Geneseo. Originally, Geneseo had offered the goaltender a role for the Spring semester, but maintained the offer for next Fall.

“Things picked up over break, and I’m lucky to have found a great spot,” explained Casper. “It’s a great location in an area I wanted. It’s obviously a great hockey school. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity and I’m sure it’ll be a great fit.”

Casper is just the 2nd commitment in EHL history to SUNY Geneseo.

“It’s something I’m very proud of," added Casper. "I believe I’ve worked hard for this. I’m so thankful for all my coaches, all my teammates, and my family. I don’t think any of us would be where we are without the people next to us.”

Bertoni went on to share his excitement over the commitment to one of the top programs in all of NCAA Division III hockey.

“It’s great for Casper, great for the Railers family, and great for our league,” Bertoni concluded. “He knows what he needs to do to be ready, and I believe he’s up for the challenge.”

With this weight now off of his shoulders, Casper's next 'challenge' comes in net tonight against the Express Hockey Club. Casper will get the nod against another team that has solidified itself as a Frozen Finals contender.
