Chiefs Goaltender Finishes Climb Up the Ladder to NCAA Hockey

NEWINGTON, CT -- Jake Williams, a goaltender for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to SUNY Fredonia for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Crofton, MD is in his second season with the Chiefs, and first full year at the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) level, after beginning his junior hockey career back in the 2021-22 season with the New England Wolves in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP). Overall, Williams has earned seven total wins to his credit throughout his time under the #EShow umbrella.

"Jake is an amazing person and I am so pleased that he is headed to Fredonia, a place that is dear to me," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. "Coach [Jeff] Meredith is a good friend and he is getting a player who knows his role and will improve everyday and help make the team better, both on and off the ice. I am happy for both of them, they are truly two great people."

As Heffernan mentioned, Fredonia is a special place for him as he spent three seasons as an Assistant Coach at the school out in western New York. In terms of the Blue Devils relationship with the EHL, Fredonia has always heavily recruited players from the league as Williams goes in the history books as the 35th player in league history to commit to the program.

"SUNY Fredonia is a great fit for me academically and athletically," said Williams. "I am excited to be joining coach Meredith and the Blue Devils in the fall. I would like to thank my parents, coaches and teammates who helped me over the years. I would like to thank my Chiefs teammates, and the Chiefs organization for an amazing 2 years of relationships, development, and exposure. I knew playing for the Chiefs would help me get to the NCAA. I would also like to thank both Coach Meredith for the opportunity and Coach Heffernan for helping me through the NCAA process."

Williams and the Chiefs are in a tight battle for playoff positioning, as they would enter the postseason as the #4 seed in the Central Division if the regular season ended today.
