Chiefs Second-Year, All-Star Defenseman Set to Join Spartans this Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- Eric Hudec, a defenseman for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to the University of Dubuque for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Milton, GA is in his second season with the Chiefs, and over the course of 91 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Hudec has tallied 44 total points to his credit on five goals and 39 assists.

"Eric is a true leader and team-first player," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. "He will be a wonderful addition to the Spartans. We will have a tough time filling his shoes, but are extremely excited to see him at the NCAA level."

Returning for his age-out campaign, the Chiefs have leaned on Hudec heavily from both a on-ice production perspective as well as in a leadership role for the team.

His development throughout his time in the league is very apparent, and it was recognized early on this year with his selection to the Central/South All-Star Team that took on Stevenson University and Lebanon Valley College back in October.

Hudec knows that experience combined with everything else that the Chiefs and the EHL has provided to him, has him prepared and ready to take his game to the NCAA ranks.

"I would first like to thank Coach Heffernan for not only helping me grow as a player, but also as a person," said Hudec. "I would like to thank my teammates for making these past two years some of the most memorable. They pushed me everyday on and off the ice, and my commitment is thanks to some of the best guys I know. I can’t wait to become a Spartan and continue to play hockey for the University of Dubuque!"

Hudec and the Chiefs are battling right in the thick of things for playoff positioning in the Central Division. With seven regular season games remaining, they will look to improve their seed ahead of the upcoming postseason.
