Avalanche Veteran Defenseman Heading to NESCAC this Fall

HOOKSETT, NH -- Robert Martiniello, a defenseman for the New Hampshire Avalanche, has committed to Wesleyan University for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Salem, NH is in his third and final season with the Avalanche, and over the course of 68 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Martiniello has tallied 48 total points to his credit on nine goals and 39 assists.

"I am very excited for Robert on his commitment to Wesleyan University," said Avalanche head coach and general manager Chris Cerrella. "It’s not easy to get the opportunity to attend a school like Wesleyan academically, so this really shows how hard he has worked on the ice and in the classroom. [Head Coach] Chris Potter is getting a good young man and a good hockey player. Marty is going to be a great addition to the Wesleyan community on and off the ice. I wish him and his family the best of luck in the years to come."

Martiniello, along with his current teammate Connor Hagness, who also recently committed to join the Cardinals, follow the lead of a strong core of Avalanche players that have advanced onto Wesleyan, dating back to New Hampshire's inaugural season (2017-18) in the EHL.

The list of Avalanche players that have committed to Wesleyan includes Wiggle Kerbrat, Kyle Anderson, Henry Carlson, Parker Sondag, and Mike Fritz.

Martiniello is beyond grateful for the opportunity, and appreciative to the Avalanche organization for making it possible.

"I would like to send a special thank you to my family for always supporting me throughout this college recruitment process," said Martiniello. "My goal was to attend a great academic university and play hockey at a great place in a great league. Wesleyan checks all the boxes for me and I am excited to be part of the Wesleyan culture next year. I would like to thank Coach Cerrella with the Avs for his hard work, and would like to thank my past and present teammates, without them pushing me every day I am not sure I would be who I am today on the ice. I am very excited to make the jump into the college hockey world next year and I can’t wait to be on campus at Wesleyan soon."

Martiniello and the Avalanche are gearing up for postseason play, having already locked up the #1 seed in the upcoming North Division Playoffs.
