Spartans Goaltender Set to Join Purple Knights this Fall

EXETER, NH -- Evan Plunkett, a goaltender for the Seacoast Spartans, has committed to Saint Michael's College (SMC) for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Durham, NC came to the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) for his first and last season of junior hockey, and to date so far this year, Plunkett has collected six wins to his credit while owning a solid .929 save percentage.

"I am very excited to see that Evan has decided on St Michael's College,” said Spartans head coach and general manager Brett Tryder. “Evan is a hard-working kid that is always working on his craft. He spends several hours a day in the goalie cage and is always trying to stay a step ahead of opposing shooters. He was a great addition to our team and if he stays hot, we may be in for an exciting playoff season."

Plunkett is one of three EHL players that have chosen SMC so far this season, as he will team up with Cole Douglas of the New Jersey 87's and Ian Wolanin of H.C. Rhode Island when he arrives on campus in the fall.

"Coming to Seacoast mid-year was a great change of scenery, for me," said Plunkett. "Coach Tryder garners a structured, team-oriented environment that prepares each player for the college level which has allowed me to thrive. Combining this environment and the exceptional in-house goalie training provided by GDS and Alec Marshall, helped me continue to grow and start developing the habits I need to have success at St. Mike's. I'm super excited to move onto this new landing spot and become a Purple Knight."

With this decision now official, Plunkett will look to lead the Spartans on a deep run in the upcoming playoffs, before heading off to college this fall. Seacoast is locked in as the #2 seed in North Division, with postseason play set to begin on Thursday, March 7th.
