Chiefs Veteran Forward Finishes Climb to NCAA Hockey

NEWINGTON, CT -- Jared Martin, a forward for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to Keene State College for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Madison, CT is in his 7th season with the Chiefs' program, and 4th year of junior hockey. After developing for a pair of years in the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), Martin is in the middle of his second season in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL).

Overall to date, Martin has tallied 18 points throughout 96 games in the EHL, which follows up the 36 points he posted in 85 games in the EHLP.

"I am really happy for Jared. He is one of the fastest players in the league and he brings energy every shift," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. "I think he is a perfect recruit for what Coach [Bobby] Rodrigue is building up at Keene State. I am looking forward to following his future as an Owl."

As Heffernan referenced, Coach Rodrigue is building things up at Keene State, as the Owls get set to begin play at the NCAA Division III level this fall.

Included in their incoming freshmen class are six other players from around the EHL. When Martin arrives on campus he will reunite with his current teammate Shane Mazur, along with Ryan Koshiol from the East Coast Wizards, Luke Festa from the Connecticut RoughRiders, Chase Carney from the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, and both Brody Davidson and Owen Davidson from the Bridgwater Bandits.

"I would like to thank my family, friends, teammates, and coaches, especially Jeremey Gerhardt and Greg Heffernan, who have guided me throughout my hockey career," said Martin. "The past seven years I've spent with the Chiefs will never be forgotten and helped mold me into the person I am today. I'm extremely excited for the opportunity to play for Coach Rodrigue at Keene State College, and I am looking forward to being an Owl for the next four years."

Martin and the Chiefs have just four games remaining on their regular season schedule, and with just a single point, they will officially secure their spot in the Central Division playoffs. They will look to seal the deal on Tuesday, when they take on the Connecticut RoughRiders at 11:30 am.
