Chiefs Defenseman Set to Join Teammate and New Program this Fall

NEWINGTON, CT -- Shane Mazur, a defenseman for the Connecticut Chiefs, has committed to Keene State College for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Wethersfield, CT chose the Chiefs for his final season of junior hockey, and over the course of 30 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Mazur has notched 14 points to his credit on a pair of goals and 12 assists.

"Shane is a dynamic defenseman who should help Keene State offensively in their inaugural season," said Chiefs head coach and general manager Greg Heffernan. "I am very excited to watch him play at the NCAA level next year."

As Heffernan referenced, the Keene State Owls are getting set to begin play at the NCAA Division III level this fall. Included in their incoming freshmen class are seven other players from around the EHL.

When Mazur arrives on campus he will reunite with his current teammate Jared Martin, along with Luke Festa from the Connecticut RoughRiders, Chase Carney from the Railers Jr. Hockey Club, Joe Fontaine and Ryan Koshiol from the East Coast Wizards, and both Brody Davidson and Owen Davidson from the Bridgwater Bandits.

"I am very excited to announce my commitment to Keene State College to further my academic and athletic career," said Mazur. "First, I want to thank my parents and my brother for all of their support, and especially the sacrifices they made for me to fulfill my dream of playing college hockey. Secondly, I would like to thank all my past teammates and coaches who pushed me and supported me throughout this journey, especially Coach Heffernan and the Chiefs organization. Lastly, I am excited for the next four years at KSC and can’t wait to get started!"

Mazur and the Chiefs trail the Railers Jr. Hockey Club 1-0 in the Central Division Semi-Finals. Connecticut returns home for game #2 of the best-of-three series tomorrow at 11:30 am, as they hope to even things up and force a decisive game #3 on Friday back in Worcester, MA.
