Spartans Defenseman Set to Join Bison this Fall

EXETER, NH -- Derek Greer, a defenseman for the Seacoast Spartans, has committed to Nichols College for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Bedford, NH began his first and only season of junior hockey this past September with the New Hampshire Avalanche, then in early December, Greer stayed in the North Division but moved over to the Spartans. Overall, in 43 total Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games to date, Greer has notched 18 points to his credit on a pair of goals and 16 assists.

"Derek was a huge addition to our blue line, this year,” said Spartans head coach and general manager Brett Tryder. “He has played in all situations since joining our team and he has been a great addition to our locker room and overall culture. He is an elite skater with a nice offensive touch. I have no doubt that he will have a successful college career."

As Tryder alluded to, Greer's season really took off after arriving in Seacoast. Look just at his point production for proof, as the defenseman has tripled his scoring total since joining the Spartans.

"My time at Seacoast this year has been an amazing experience for me on and off of the ice," said Greer. "I am extremely grateful to have spent this season with a great group of guys and an awesome coaching staff. I look forward to playing for Nichols College, next year, and I am excited to have the opportunity to compete at the next level."

Greer and his Spartans teammates currently lead their North Division Semi-Final series 1-0 over the New England Wolves. They will look to close out the series this afternoon at 1:45 pm, and if they are able to do so, will advance to the North Division Finals for the second consecutive season.
