Rhode Island Forward Set to Join Falcons this Fall

WARWICK, RI -- Marcus Macchioni, a forward for H.C. Rhode Island (HCRI), has committed to Fitchburg State University for the fall of 2024.

The '04 native of North Kingstown, RI recently finished what will end up being his first and only season of junior hockey. Macchioni hit the ice for 42 Eastern Hockey League (EHL) games this year, and along the way, he tallied 32 points to his credit on 11 goals and 21 assists.

It gives me great pleasure to see the growth Marcus has experienced this year as a player and as a person," said HCRI head coach James Mello. "We are fully excited for this unique opportunity that Marcus will have to play with his brothers at Fitchburg State and for Coach Fuller. We also want to congratulate the entire Macchioni family, who are the owners of Northeast Sports Training, our strength and fitness partners. Next year will be a year to remember for all."

As Mello mentioned, Macchioni will be passing up on his age-out season of junior hockey, to play with his two brothers at Fitchburg State next season. Macchioni will also be joining Alex Bauvais, a member of the 2022-23 HCRI team.

"I couldn’t be more excited to further my academic and athletic career at Fitchburg State University," said Macchioni. I am thrilled to join my brothers, Michael and Max as a Falcon and would like to thank Coach Fuller and the Fitchburg coaching staff for giving me the opportunity. I would also like to thank Coach Mello, Coach Delgallo, Toby O’Brien, and the whole HCRI family. I also want to thank our coaches at Northeast Sports Training for their constant help with my development as an athlete. Finally, I would like to thank my parents and family for all they have done for me my entire hockey career."

The pride and appreciation for Macchioni is felt throughout the HCRI program, including with O'Brien, the general manager of the team.

"I’ve known Marcus since he was a little kid and have watched him grow over the years," said O'Brien. "It is very rewarding that he grew up 10 minutes away from our rink and has been able to use HCRI, that did not exist just two years ago, to help him achieve his goals. This advancement is an example of exactly why we started this organization. To be able to go to college and play with your two bothers is going to be a truly lifetime experience for the entire Macchioni family. We also congratulate our training partners at NEST, which is owned by the Macchioni family, and thank them all for being part of HCRI’s success so far."
