RoughRiders All-Star Defenseman Set to Join Valiants this Fall

NORWALK, CT -- Albert Lian, a defenseman for the Connecticut RoughRiders, has committed to Manhattanville College for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Darien, CT recently finished his second and final season with the RoughRiders, and over the course of 89 career games in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), Lian tallied 21 total points to his credit on three goals and 18 assists.

"Albert is a solid defender that gets to his spots on the ice with speed," said RoughRiders head coach and general manager Eric Lind. "He is can win back possession, and jumps into the offense with ease. He also works well with the forwards in the regroup and offensive end. He was prominent on the power play and penalty kill as an asset for us over the past two seasons. He has worked hard in and off season to gain himself a place in the NCAA."

Along with the time and resources that the RoughRiders provided to Lian, the veteran defenseman was also named an EHL All-Star back in October. As a member of the Central/South All-Star Team that faced-off against Stevenson University and Lebanon Valley College, Lian gained the valuable experience of playing NCAA hockey while still in the junior ranks. Combining everything together, Lian is beyond grateful of the journey he took, as it all led to this moment in his hockey career.

"Playing juniors for two years with the RoughRiders taught me a lot of things that have helped me develop not only as a player but as a person as well," said Lian. "Coach Lind & Coach Brown really pushed me to be at my best all the time. Coach Lind is one of the best skating coaches I’ve ever had and also is a great mentor. Coach Brown helped me clean up the little things in game by being a great analysis coach and picking out the little things in my game that helped me improve tremendously. Thank you to both of the coaches and my teammates for making the past two years unforgettable!"
