Rangers Defenseman Set to Join Rams this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Zach Pappas, a defenseman for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to Framingham State University for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Tinley Park, IL represented the Rangers for two years in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL). Playing over 60 games in his first season, he split time in both the EHL and the Eastern Hockey League Premier (EHLP), eventually helping lead the Rangers’ Premier squad to the Frozen Finals.

He played 44 EHL games in his age-out year, scoring two goals and adding in seven assists. In sum, Papppas played 117 games in just two seasons of junior hockey, scoring a total of 10 goals, to go along with 36 assists.

“We are very proud of Zach,” said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. “He’s been a warrior for us for the last 2 seasons and a true leader by example. Although small in stature, he has the compete level of 'Goliath'. We are very excited to see him excel at the next level.”

In his time in the EHL, Pappas earned a reputation of being tough to play against, and will bring that style to the Rams, where he will have plenty of teammates with EHL experience. That list will include Charlie Dimartino, a forward from the Express Hockey Club, who was named the MVP of the EHLP, following the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.

“I am excited about my commitment to Framingham State University as it starts a new chapter in my life after a very long road to get to this point,” said Pappas. “The Rangers helped me refine the parts of my game that could’ve held me back from making the jump to the next level. I especially want to thank Coach DeCaprio for the time he spent with me working on the small details of my game. The Rangers overall have been supportive and have made me feel at home for the last two amazing years. I am grateful for my time with the Boston Jr. Rangers and looking forward to building on my progress at Framingham!”
