Rangers Veteran Defenseman Set to Join Corsairs this Fall

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Tommy Madden, a defenseman for the Boston Jr. Rangers, has committed to UMass Dartmouth (UMD) for the fall of 2024.

The '03 native of Brighton, MA spent two seasons developing in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL), hitting the ice for a year apiece with the Philadelphia Hockey Club and the Boston Jr. Rangers. Overall, in 96 career games in the EHL, Madden tallied 40 points to his credit on 11 goals and 29 assists.

"Tommy was a major reason for our team's success this past season," said Rangers head coach and general manager Rich DeCaprio. "He was tremendous on the blue line and also in the locker room. He has top-end skating ability and is very hard to play against in the defensive zone. We are looking forward to watching him succeed and the NCAA level."

When Madden gets to the NCAA level, he will be joined by a fellow Ranger in Spencer Sykes, who chose UMD back in early April. The pair of former Rangers are part of a five-player class that the EHL is sending to join the Corsairs this fall, as the other three committed players are Noah Webster from H.C. Rhode Island, and both Sam Boos and Brennan Pecararo from the New Hampshire Avalanche.

"I’m very proud and honored to announce my commitment to continue my hockey career at UMass Dartmouth," said Madden. "I would like to thank all my family, friends, teammates, and coaches who have helped me reach my goals. I’d also like to extend a thank you to Coach DeCaprio and everything the Boston Junior Rangers organization has done for me to get to this point. I am super excited for the opportunity Coach Noack has given me and am ready to be part of an outstanding program!"
