BOSTON, MA -- While it may not feel like hockey weather outside, the Eastern Hockey League is already finished with the first month of the season. 54 games down, and 354 games to go in the EHL Division.
This week, the EHL is pleased to announce Jackson Shanley (Northern Cyclones), Brian Kowalski (Walpole Express), and Marc Happy (Connecticut Oilers) as the EHL Stars of the Week.
Also, this week's EHL Team of the Week is the Valley Jr. Warriors.
Shanley and the Cyclones split their two games over the weekend, giving them a record of 5-2-0 in the first 7 games of the season.
Shanley put together a solid four-goal weekend, that also included the GWG in the shootout on Sunday night. The native of Vail, Colorado will look to extend his goal streak this weekend when the Cyclones take on the Little Flyers, Jr. Flyers, and Revolution at the Columbus Day Showcase.
Kowalski and the Express won both of their games this weekend, improving their record to 3-2-0 on the season.
The native of Williamsville, New York entered the game halfway through the contest on Saturday night, and played from start to finish on Sunday. In four games so far this season, Kowalski already has three wins, while stopping 154 of 162 shots against. The netminder will look to keep things rolling this weekend when the Express take on the Wolfpack, Little Flyers, and Applecore at the Columbus Day Showcase.
Happy and the Oilers won their only game of the weekend, snapping a four-game losing streak.
The 6'4" defenseman from Sterling, Massachusetts has four points in six games so far this season. Happy is in his 3rd year with the Oilers, and last year's EHL Defenseman of the Year will look to keep things going in four games this week. The Oilers face-off with the Nighthawks on Tuesday, and then they get the Rangers, Warriors, and Wizards at the Columbus Day Showcase this weekend.
This week's EHL Team of the Week is the Valley Jr. Warriors.
The Warriors were able to grab some revenge on Friday afternoon, beating the Cyclones after they knocked Valley out of the playoffs this past March.
Sean Lincoln picked up the win between the pipes on Friday night, while Nick Scarpa got the victory on Sunday. Severin Nilsson led the way offensively, scoring a goal and dishing out three assists in the two games. The Warriors will look to extend their three-game winning streak against the Oilers and Wolfpack at the Columbus Day Showcase this weekend.
This past weekend was filled with a large number of notable goaltending performances throughout the EHL.
The Philadelphia Little Flyers swept the Connecticut Nighthawks this past weekend, improving their record to 4-0-1. On Sunday, the Little Flyers won by the score of 3-0, and Alex Peterson capped the scoring with this sweet back-hander. #EHLTV #EasternHockey
