Santos Brings Years of Experience to the EHL

BOSTON, MA -- The Eastern Hockey League (EHL) is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Santos as its new Executive Director. Santos comes to the EHL with 28 years of experience in the hockey industry. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up just over a half hour north of the city in Lowell. He spent his undergrad years at Boston College, received his Master's Degree from the United States Sports Academy in 1989, and earned his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University School of Law in 1998. He currently serves on USA Hockey’s junior and legal councils.

Santos began his career at the National Hockey League's office in New York City back in 1988. He spent just over six seasons serving as the league’s Manager of Special Events. He established both the SuperSkills and Heroes of Hockey programs in addition to overseeing arena operations for the All-Star Weekend, Entry Draft, and Stanley Cup Finals.

Following his time in NYC, Santos stepped in as the Assistant General Manager and Director of Hockey Operations for the New York Islanders. After four seasons on Long Island, his next move gave him the title of Corporate Counsel and Director of Hockey Operations for the Florida Panthers in the 2002-03 season.

Santos continued his career when he made his first move into junior hockey, as he took on the role of Commissioner and President of the North American Hockey League (Tier II). In three seasons with the NAHL, he expanded the league from 16 to 21 teams, and helped set the foundation for where the league is today.

Santos expansive career continued with four seasons as the Director of Hockey Operations for the Nashville Predators, followed by four more seasons with the Florida Panthers, serving as the team's Assistant General Manager.

Over the past couple years, he has continued his career as an adjunct professor for Georgetown University, St. Thomas University, and Endicott College.

Santos is eager and excited to join the Eastern Hockey League, with strong goals set for the future of the top Tier III Junior Hockey League on the East Coast.
