Philly Teams Earn Sweeps and Advance to Finals

PHILADELPHIA, PA -- The Premier Division Finals are set, and it's going to be Philadelphia vs. Philadelphia, the Little Flyers vs. the Jr. Flyers. Both teams swept their opponent in the Semi-Finals, earning themselves a spot in the Championship showdown. During the regular season the Little Flyers beat the Jr. Flyers by scores of 6-1, 5-4, and 3-2, and then the Jr. Flyers won the most recent pair of contests by scores of 3-2 (SO) and 3-0. There is no doubt that this year's #EHLfinals feature the top teams in the league.

For the Philadelphia Little Flyers, they advance after sweeping the New Jersey Rockets with wins of 6-4 and 3-1. After falling behind 2-0 in the first seven minutes of Game 1, the Little Flyers turned the tables while scoring 9 of the next 12 goals in the series and advancing to the final round of the playoffs.

Samuel Kany made 29 saves for the win in Game 1, while Joseph Giacobbo stopped 35 shots in Game 2. Philadelphia had a number of players that contributed offensively, but it was the line of Alex Peterson (7 points), Joey Savel (6 points), and Alex Ochterbeck (5 points) that led the way. Savel claimed the TSR Hockey Top Performer honors.

Over in West Chester, the Jr. Flyers were led by Mac Vail between the pipes and the  Luke Benitez/Matthew Manning combo on offense. There were 11 different players that tallied at least a point for Philadelphia, but it was Benitez's hat-trick in Game 2 that iced the series for the Philadelphia Jr. Flyers, as they swept the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs.

In Game 1, Philadelphia jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and remained ahead until the final horn sounded. Manning scored the Jr. Flyers 3rd goal of the game early in the 3rd period, and the short-handed tally ended up being his 3rd game-winner of the playoffs.

Flip over to Game 2, and it was the Monarchs who came out buzzing. Despite a relentless first 25 minutes however, New Hampshire only led 2-0 early in the 2nd period. From there the Jr. Flyers erupted for 8 of the next 9 goals, punching their ticket to the #EHLfinals. Manning grabbed his 4th game-winner, while Benitez claimed the TSR Hockey Top Performer honors.
